Labour expert decries Kwekwe murder’s impact

By Own Correspondent

LABOUR expert, doctor Prosper Chitambara has decried the violent scenes which took place at the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) rally in Kwekwe saying it further chokes global perceptions of the country in the face of investors.

The remarks come shortly after suspected Zanu-pf youths attacked congregants at a CCC rally leaving one person dead and 17 injured.

Speaking to The Worker   shortly after the incident, Chitambara said the incidents will have a bearing on job creation and investment creation.

“Current efforts to market the country on the international arena have been thrown into jeopardy. Government has been up and about the globe in an overdrive implementing the re-engagement strategy. There is an urgent need to nip such political deviance in the bud,” he said.

He said investors are more interested in bringing their capital in a country which is peaceful, adding that the negative political tag will dent job creation efforts.

The attack occurred when CCC president Nelson Chamisa was delivering his speech.

Nelson Chamisa was quickly whisked away by his security personnel when the melee started.

CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere has since revealed the name of the man who died after being attacked at the rally. Mahere identified the man as Mboneni Ncube (30). She revealed that he was attacked by a spear.

It comes barely a week after the European Union renewed sanctions against Zimbabwe citing that violence and human rights abuse situation has not improved on the political terrain.

Currently, Zimbabwe ranks low on the ease of doing business index.
