Four artisanal miners perished when a 20-meter-deep shaft collapsed at Mamini, Umsasa Farm, Mazowe, on 28 September 2025.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have released the names of four artisanal miners who died in a mine accident whose bodies have since been retrieved.
In a statement posted on their X account, the police confirmed the retrieval of four bodies, which were taken to Concession District Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that four bodies were retrieved from the mine shaft and were taken to Concession District Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.”
The deceased were identified by their next of kin as: Alton Sibanda (25) Thlavati Village, Zhombe, Prince Gobvu (19) Mhariwa Village, Mhondoro, Kenneth Mhandire (24) Eastview, Harare and Tapiwa Meskano (26) Chikwaka Village, Goromonzi
The police urged mine operators to prioritize safety protocols emphasising the importance of conducting regular mine inspections to identify hazards and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
“Mine operators should prioritize safety protocols and above all conduct regular mine inspections to identify potential hazards,” said the police.
