The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) is mourning the death of its national women’s committee vice chairperson Cde Faith Kalinde who passed away in a road traffic accident on 4 July 2022 on her way to work along the Harare Beitbridge road.
In a statement, the ZCTU Secretary General Japhet Moyo said the labour body had lost a promising cadre who was a motor mechanic by profession.
‘The ZCTU has learnt with profound sadness on the passing on Cde Faith Kalinde, our national Women’s Committee Vice Chairperson on the 4th of July 2022 in a road traffic accident. Cde Kalinde was also the Vice President of our affiliate, the Zimbabwe Construction and Allied Trades Workers Union (ZCATWU). She served the women’s committee as a councillor from 2016 representing ZCATWU until her election as vice chairperson at the 8th Women’s conference in October 2021. A very cheerful and active trade union activist, Cde Kalinde participated very much in the Decisions for Life Campaign and served in various structures of the ZCTU Northeastern region,” said Moyo.
Moyo said Cde Kalinde’s death was a huge loss to the ZCTU family as she was a promising and unifying leader.
