THE Harare City Council (HCC) has bade farewell to veteran trade unionist, Tafirei Murambatsvina in memory of the immense contributions he made as the local authority’s employee.

The now deceased Murambatsvina was widely perceived as a beacon of hope and strength in the labor movement.

In his role as the chairman of the Zimbabwe Urban Council Workers Union (ZUCWU), he demonstrated unwavering dedication to advocating for workers' rights. His rich background and deep knowledge of labor laws made him an exceptional leader, someone who could eloquently articulate the needs and aspirations of the workers he represented.

Posting on social media, Watson Chatiza said the late Murambatsvina inspired him in several ways.

“From the moment I joined the City of Harare in 2008, I was inspired by his charisma and vision. His ability to connect with people and motivate them toward a common goal was truly remarkable.

“It wasn't long before I found myself drawn to the labour movement, and I took the leap to join his union—a decision that would shape my future,” he said.

Harare Mayor, Cllr Jacob Mafume also reflected on the late Murambatsvina as a trade unionist of good repute.

"He was a sober and dedicated leader who worked tirelessly to address the challenges faced by workers at the council," Mayor Mafume said.

The Mayor further stated that Murambatsvina was very frank and objective when discussing employee issues, and was also very sociable.

He fondly recalled a photo shoot they had together at Town House, highlighting the late trade unionist's warm personality.

“Murambatsvina's passing has left a significant void, not only among employees but also within the union leadership. His absence will be deeply felt, and it will be challenging to fill the gap he has left behind," added Mafume.
