THE nation of Zimbabwe is enduring a very sad loss following the untimely passing on of a revered Labour Court Judge, Justice Mercy Moyo Matshanga who passed on at a Bulawayo Hospital recently.

She was aged 61.

The late Justice Moya –Matshanga was born on February 12 1963 in Matobo. She studied Law at the University of Zimbabwe and graduated in 1988 and joined the Justice, Legal, Parliamentary Affairs Ministry as a public prosecutor  in 1989.

She rose through the ranks to become a chief law officer in 2001 before becoming a Judge of the Labour Court in 2006 in 2006.

According to a statement by the JSC, the late Judge collapsed at her home in Bulawayo .She was then rushed to a local private hospital where she died upon admission .

“It is with great sadness that we advise of the passing on of Honourable, Justice Moya–Matshanga who collapsed at home and died this morning at Corporate 24 Hospital in Bulawayo,” read the statement.

Speaking at her burial on behalf of the Judicial Services Commission  (JSC) Senior Judge of the Labour Court ,Justice Custom Kachambwa described the late as a team member who served in the judicial system with integrity and hard work.

“I worked with the late Justice Moya-Matshanga and she was based here in Bulawayo, heading the court alone. She was a hard worker, a very disciplined judge. I like to think that even at the last minute, she was still working hard, looking at her judgements. She was such a joy to work with. She was a team member. She liked to work with others, including working with even the Secretariat.

“Her contribution to the system is unmeasurable. If all judges can be hardworking like her, we would have a great system. She was a team member. That, to us, is very, very clear,” he said
